Anyone used the RFC viewer on this site yet? I had a go and it seems ok, just a glorified reader and could do with other features like smartlinks to get more details on other related drafts or to some kind of online glossary.. just my thoughts.

Not surprising since Mitel purchased Intertel. Even though " 5000 CP is based on open architecture interfaces and standard protocols", does anyone know if a site license is required like the Intertel 5000? Also does the Expansion Module have to be keyed to the Main Module? Just curious.

A tough decision is being made at the moment at the SIP School and that is what to use as the corporate mobile phone... Windows mobile 6.1 based HTC Touch HD or the iPhone.. why is it a tough decision? well the iPhone is so 'usable' we just want them but what's stopping us is the fact that the iPhone has a weird way of working with 3rd Party apps, so if we load a SIP client, the client will close if we open an Apple App... Crazy! - but there are a growing number of SIP clients out there for the iPhone such as Truephone and Fring, Jajah etc. etc. The Windows Mobile solution is one we are comfortable with and has no such application co-existance problems... so we are not going into detail here, just wanted other peoples opinions - Help!

The Android platform looks exciting yet it's still new and probably like a lot of people we are just fed up with being at the 'bleeding edge' with every device we use... Ok, we're testing SIP clients all the time and these can be a bit 'buggy' but to have a 'buggy' phone OS and 'buggy' client I think the device will go flying out of the Window... It's a great idea though and we'll maybe get one to test a bit further down the line...

I am a newbie to the SIPS world. I find the more i research the more i like. I am debating on becomming a certified SIPS installer but wonder... Does the "Certification" really add that much credibility? Is there someone that stands out more so than others when talking to a customer? Does the certification mean.. More leads? Is there one panel better than the other and if the class is taken, are all of these questions and more answered..LOL Yes sorry there is more..

Getting a certification is a personal choice and a certification in SIP (we think) will show employers that you have put the work in to understand the protocol and took time to work with it... If you can prove this without a certification then this is probably ok as well. As we have a number of companies who endorse the SSCA™ the certification being recognised by them should help if you want to work with them... companies like Mitel, Panasonic, snom, Ingate etc. are all big SIP companies and they are recognising that they need to embrace a SIP certification program to train their staff but also ensure that their channel partners know SIP in order to install and support their products. Agreed, it's an interesting time...

The 878-10 Country Code is a permanently delegated number resource based on enum for the purposes of Universal Personal Telephony. 878-10 becomes the first telephone number range providing worldwide portability for voice, email, SMS and web. ENUM allows users to access Internet-based services and resources from Internet-aware telephones, ordinary telephones connected to Internet gateways or proxy services, and other Internet-connected devices where input is limited to numeric digits. ENUM enables users to specify their preferences for receiving incoming communications, and gives greater user control over communications.

In the beginning it is a bit complex to understand fully byt eventually it is much easier than Xlite to configure and thanks it is free. I use it with nomado ( www.nomado.eu ) and I must say when there are NAT issue with some nasty router, it helps a lot. The skin could be a bit better looking but it is a softphone that will be soon the number one SIP / IAX softphone in the world I reckon

The softswitch application is based on open standards such as SIP and provides a rich, highly customizable communication platform. Its programmable routing intelligence and support of network-calling plans can be assigned to endpoints in order to filter calls. It functions as a softswitch by giving an integrated control point for various telephony services. The Dial-Gate billing solution provides real time monitoring, pre/post paid billing, rate/route table management, and CDR report generation. Dial-Gate is fully integrated with MS Exchange supplying the user with voicemail unification, instant messaging and video communication.
